Wie hält es unsere Jugend mit der Religion? Dieser Frage widmen sich naturbedingt immer wieder der Kirche nahestehende Institutionen – meist aus purem Selbsterhaltungstrieb. So auch der Würzburger Religionspädagoge Hans-Georg Ziebertz mit seinem Team in der Studie “Youth in Europe II: Religiosity”. Die Ergebnisse dürften im Vatikan anhaltenden Schwermut auslösen. Die beachtenswerte Studie befragte rund 10.000 Jugendliche in ganz Europa, der Türkei und Israel zu ihren Lebenseinstellungen, ihrer Religion und ihrem Glauben. Ziel war es, Unterschiede zwischen den Religionen aber auch länderspezifische Eigenarten zu erkennen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen gravierende Differenzen allein innerhalb Europas.
Die mit Abstand am stärksten ausgeprägte Religiösität besitzen Jugendliche in der Türkei, dicht gefolgt von denen jüdischen Glaubens in Israel. Aus den traditionell christlichen Ländern folgen Jugendliche aus Polen, Kroatien und schließlich Irland. Kids aus eher protestantischen Ländern wie Finland und Schweden gehören genau wie Jugendliche aus Deutschland, Großbritannien und den Niederlanden zu den so genannten “schwach religiösen”.
Die Gründe hierfür sieht die Studie in der religiösen Prägung. Eine nachhaltige religiöse Erziehung in der Familie ist in der Türkei und Polen am deutlichsten. In der Türkei ist es 84 Prozent der Eltern wichtig, dass die Kinder ihren Glauben übernehmen. Dasselbe gilt noch für 60 Prozent der polnischen, aber nur für nur 9 Prozent der deutschen Eltern.
Widmen wir uns nun der viel gescholtenen “Jugend von Heute” in Deutschland. Hier trafen die Wissenschaftler eine interessante Auswahl. Befragt wurde nicht ein repräsentativer Querschnitt durch die deutsche Bevölkerung, sondern lediglich 17- und 18-jährige Jugendliche, die die 11. Klasse des Gymnasiums oder einer Gesamtschule besuchen und stadtnah wohnen. Diese Kids bilden laut Einschätzung des Teams die Bildungselite von morgen, sie machen Meinung und werden wahrscheinlich leitende Positionen in Beruf und Gesellschaft einnehmen. Sie prägen mit ihrer Meinung das Bild der Kirche von morgen entscheidend. Und genau dies wollten die forschenden Theologen skizzieren. Die Angst muss tief sitzen.
Schauen wir uns diese Bildungselite einmal genauer an. 78 Prozent der befragten Schüler sind getauft und 73 Prozent haben am Konfirmations- bzw. Kommunionsunterricht teilgenommen. Soweit die Vergangenheit. Doch die Gegenwart sieht anders aus: Nur 9 Prozent der Befragten gehen regelmäßig in den Gottesdienst, während 61 Prozent nur ein- bis zweimal im Jahr in die Kirche gehen.
Obwohl die befragten Jugendlichen 46 Prozent ihrer Väter und sogar 61 Prozent ihrer Mütter als gottesgläubig beschreiben, legen nur 28 Prozent der Väter und 36 Prozent der Mütter gesteigerten Wert darauf, dass auch die Kinder ihren Glauben übernehmen. Lediglich 3 Prozent der Väter, wie 4 Prozent der Mütter, haben die Teilnahme am Gottesdienst von ihren Kindern gefordert.
Im Vergleich bejahen 97 Prozent der befragten Türken und 96 Prozent der polnischen Kids, ihren Eltern sei sehr daran gelegen, dass sie ihren Glauben und ihre Wertvorstellungen übernähmen. In Deutschland sagen das nur 14,1 Prozent.
Doch lehnen unsere Kids auch die klassischen religiösen Werte ab? Weit gefehlt. Andere Studien berichten von einem anhaltenden, deutlichen Trend zu klassischen Werten wie Ehrlichkeit, Toleranz, Fleiß oder Vertrauen. Nur verbindet die Jugend diese nicht automatisch mit den Religionen. Warum auch.
Auch religiöse Rituale verlieren bei den Jugendlichen zunehmend an Bedeutung. Nur für 29 Prozent der Kids ist eine kirchliche Trauung noch sehr wichtig, nur für 31 Prozent eine Taufe ihrer Kinder. Ebenso betrachten nur 2 Prozent der Befragten die Bibel als „Gottes Wort”, das wortwörtlich zu verstehen ist. Beruhigend.
Muss uns diese Entwickung besorgen? Eher nicht. Sie betrifft nicht nur die Jugend, auch die Erwachsenen wenden sich von der Kirche ab. Zudem hatte die Jugend schon immer das Privileg, Althergebrachtes zu hinterfragen, zu rebellieren. Die Kirche steht mit ihren Traditionen, ihren Ritualen und ihrer Geschichte auf dem Prüfstein. Und das quer durch die Gesellschaft. Die “christlichen” Werte erfreuen sich jedoch steigender Beliebtheit bei den Kids. Nur, dass die Kirchen ihren vormals alleinigen Anspruch auf diese Werte zunehmend verlieren.
Schlechte Nachrichten also für die Unternehmensberatungen des Klerus. Man ist im Begriff, nach tausenden von Jahren die Meinungsführerschaft in Sachen Nächstenliebe einzubüßen. Die USPs weichen auf. Doch das Imperium schlägt zurück. Längst arbeiten Marketingstrategen an der Wende. Es geht um viel Geld.
