Die globale Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrise sehen nur 46 Prozent der Jugendlichen als Bedrohung, den internationalen Terrorismus sogar nur 42 Prozent.
Der viel proklamierte internationale Terrorismus findet offenbar im Sorgenhaushalt der Jugend nur wenig Beachtung. Dies mag daran liegen, dass er hierzulande wenig präsent, aber öffentlich viel bekämpft ist. Denkbar wäre aber auch, dass er von der Jugend längst als politisches Mittel erkannt wurde. Diese Sichtweise unterscheidet die junge Bevölkerungsgruppe laut der WELT von älteren Menschen, die in vorherigen Studien zu diesem Thema befragt wurden. Unter den Erwachsenen gaben die meisten Probanden zwar auch die Umweltzerstörung und den Klimawandel als größte Herausforderung an (53 Prozent). An zweiter Stelle rangierte jedoch schon der internationale Terrorismus, an dritter Stelle Armut und Überbevölkerung.
Trotz aller Sorgen bleibt die Jugend optimistisch: Herrschte zum Beispiel in den Achtzigern ein genereller Zukunftspessimismus vor, so äußerten sich heute die meisten Befragten zuversichtlich. Nur knapp ein Drittel hält die Probleme für unlösbar. Zur Lösung der Herausforderungen sehen die Jugendlichen nicht nur Regierungen, große Institutionen oder Unternehmen in der Pflicht, sondern ebenfalls die Bevölkerung.
