Deutschlands reichweitenstärkstes Social Network bietet unter dem Namen „VZmobil” einen eigenen Prepaid-Tarif für Mobiltelefone an. Die rund 17 Millionen Nutzer der VZ-Netzwerke (MeinVZ, StudiVZ, SchülerVZ) können ab sofort kostengünstig mobil telefonieren und SMS versenden. Darüber hinaus ermöglicht der Tarif den unbegrenzten, kostenlosen Zugang zu den VZ-Netzen. Die zur Verfügung gestellten Apps für iPhone, Symbian, Android und Windows Mobile gestatten die kostenlose Kommunikation unter VZ-Nutzern auf ihrem Mobiltelefon.
Neukunden, die sich bis zum 31.8.2010 für den Tarif entscheiden, können zunächst drei Monate lang untereinander kostenlos telefonieren und SMS versenden. Beim Freischalten der SIM-Karte besteht die Möglichkeit, eine Festnetznummer einzugeben, die der Kunde zukünftig für 15 Sekunden kostenlos erreichen kann. Dies ermöglicht zum Beispiel Jugendlichen, kostenfrei zu Hause anzurufen und kurz um Rückruf zu bitten. Dieses Feature soll den Tarif vor allem für junge Kunden und deren Eltern attraktiv machen.
Mit der neuen VZmobil Prepaidkarte telefonieren und simsen die Kunden im O2-Netz für 9 Cent pro Minute und SMS in alle deutschen Fest- und Handynetze. Für den Versand von MMS fallen Gebühren von jeweils 39 Cent an. Die Nutzung des mobilen Internets wird bei VZmobil mit 24 Cent je Megabyte berechnet. Diese Gebühren bewegen sich in etwa im Bereich anderer Prepaid-Anbieter wie Congstar, Simyo oder Fonic. Das Einführungspaket zu einem Preis von 5,00 Euro (inkl. 1,00 Euro Startguthaben) zielt zwar vor allem auf Nutzer der VZ-Netzwerke ab, ist aber auch ohne Mitgliedschaft zu erwerben.
