Ja, die Kids sind im Internet. Ohne Zweifel. Und oft. Aber sind sie deshalb süchtig, wie Thomas Hintz, seines Zeichens Psychologe am Mannheimer Zentralinstitut für seelische Gesundheit unlängst herausgefunden haben möchte? Und was bedeutet eigentlich “süchtig”? Sucht wird im Duden mit „krankhafter Übersteigerung von Bedürfnissen“ definiert. Wahrscheinlich medizinisch nicht sehr tragfähig, aber knackig. Um also beurteilen zu können, ob die Kids süchtig sind, müsste Herr Hintz a.) die Bedürfnisse der Jugendlichen kennen und b.) belegen, dass diese “krankhaft übersteigert” sind. Beides scheint mir mehr als fraglich.
Widmen wir uns zunächst kurz den Bedürfnissen. Wie einschlägige Studien berichten, nutzen die Kids den Computer und in diesem Zuge maßgeblich das Internet äußerst vielschichtig und kontrolliert. Was vor 20 Jahren der Plattenspieler, die Jugendzeitschrift, der Fernseher, der Brief, das Telefon, ein Tagebuch, das Poesiealbum, das Radio und oft auch der Jugendraum waren, vereingt heute einzig der PC. Die Bedürfnisse, die unsere Kids hier stillen, heißen schlicht Konsum (Musik, Film etc.), Unterhaltung, Information und, ganz wichtig, Kommunikation. Diese Bedürfnisse haben sich kaum verändert, wohl jedoch die Medien. Aus 20 wurde 1: der PC im Internet.
Stellt sich weiter die Frage, ob die Kids diese Bedürfnisse “krankhaft übersteigern”. Zwar ist das Netz für die Kids wichtiger geworden, als Radio, TV und Zeitschriften, jedoch zeigt dies nur, dass sich hier ihre Bedürfnisse mit in einem Medium zentral decken lassen. Einfach den Rechner hochfahren und los geht´s. Nicht mehr zum Kiosk, nicht zum Radio, nicht in´s Kino. Alles im sitzen. Wie praktisch. Dass die Kids dabei verfetten, ist ein anderes Thema.
Wie beispielsweise die in weiten Teilen überaus ehrenwerte Studie “BRAVO Faktor 9″ berichtet, verbringen Jugendliche deutlich weniger Zeit mit der Mediennutzung als Erwachsene. Nur benutzen sie halt andere Medien. Sind sie deshalb krankhaft? Sicher nicht. Vielleicht etwas faul.
Sicher gibt es auch onlinesüchtige Kids. Genau wie Omis, Bodybuilder oder Tastenfunker. Aber eine Geschichte wie “Deutschlands Schnittlauchbauern sind onlinesüchtig” verkauft sich halt nicht. Macht irgendwie weniger betroffen. Also doch alles richtig gemacht, Herr Hintz.
